Young sledder rescued

On Monday, a 13-year-old boy was rescued after becoming separated from his family while sledding in the Chimney Peak area the previous day, the Tulare County Sheriff’s Department reported.

According to the TCSD report, the missing juvenile, who had been visiting the area with family from Bakersfield, was reported missing to the TCSD at 5:54 p.m.

An extensive, overnight search for the juvenile was conducted by the TCSD, Kern County Sheriff’s Department Air One, Kern Valley Search and Rescue, China Lake Mountain Search and Rescue, Sequoia Mountain Rescue, Kern Valley Search and Rescue, Liberty Ambulance and a helicopter from the China Lake Naval Air Station. A total of 34 personnel were dedicated to the search.

The boy was located Sunday at about 9:20 a.m. approximately one mile from where he was last seen.

He was airlifted to Loma Linda Hospital in San Bernardino by a helicopter from the China Lake Naval Air Station.

Upon his rescue, he was responsive and alert.
